Visual content provider Splashlight has named Gilles Rousseau senior vice president of sales and marketing and Chris Smart to senior vice president of operations.
The additions are aimed to address a period of growth for the New York-based company as advances in technology and robust growth of e-commerce have changed the retail environment.
“Gilles and Chris bring a combination of skills both rare and crucial during a critical time in our company’s growth and a period of pivotal change in the retail, luxury and fashion sectors,” said James Ingram, chief executive officer of Splashlight, adding that the additions will help to “guide our clients through the sea changes in the industry as technology is increasingly integral to the creative process.”
In a recent meeting with WWD, Ingram described advances in technology and the growth of e-commerce as creating “incredible opportunities for retailers and brands” that are not even yet fully realized, he said. For Splashlight, the ability to leverage data technology with visual content will help retailers and brands maximize these opportunities, the CEO noted.
“In his new role, Rousseau is tasked with creating and growing relationships with brands and retailers and their respective creative/production teams,” the company said today. “He will also head up all aspects of the company’s messaging and market positioning efforts.”
Previously, Rousseau served as chief sales officer at The Digital Marvels Inc. as well as a senior vice president and international marketing director of jewelry at Christie’s International. Rousseau also served in a variety of sales and marketing roles including at companies such as LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton and Van Cleef & Arpels.
Smart’s position will focus on overseeing all of Splashlight’s day-to-day operations, “as well as for driving the company’s international expansion,” the company said.
Prior to Splashlight, Smart served as vice president of global digital operations at Ralph Lauren Corp., where his responsibilities included running all aspects of the brand’s “global omnichannel catalogue.” Smart has also served in various roles at the National Westminster Banking Group in the technology and aerospace finance sectors.
Splashlight describes itself as a “photo and video creation partner for leading retail, luxury and fashion brands.” The company’s clients include Target Corp. Bloomingdale’s, David Yurman, DKNY, Macy’s Inc. and Aldo Group. Splashlight also has offices in Miami, Columbus and Montreal.
